Autel MaxiScope MP608: Getting Started with Your Tablet or PC

Ready to add waveform testing to your workshop? The Autel MaxiScope MP608 works with a compatible Autel tablet or a Windows PC to help you examine vehicle signals. Before your first test, choose the right host device and check its software status.

This guide takes you through compatibility, update subscriptions, setup, and your first capture, so you can prepare the equipment you need before connecting to a vehicle.

1. Choose a compatible tablet or Windows PC

Check the exact model name on your device before ordering. The supported options covered in this guide are:

  • MaxiSys: MS909S2 / MS909 / MS909EV / MS909CV / MS906 MAX / MS908S Pro II / MS906 Pro / MS906 Pro-TS.
  • MaxiIM: IM608S II / IM608 Pro II.
  • Windows PC: a compatible computer running the MP608 version of Autel MaxiScope software.

Model suffixes matter. For example, MS906, MS906 Pro, and MS906 MAX are different models. Do not assume that another Autel scanner or an ordinary Android tablet will work simply because its name or operating system looks similar.

Already own a tablet? Check the update subscription first

If the update subscription on your existing compatible tablet has expired, you need to renew it and install the required updates before you can use that tablet with the MP608. Buying the MP608 does not renew your tablet's subscription.

Before purchasing the MP608 for an older device, confirm that you are willing and able to cover the renewal cost. Without the required renewal and software updates, you will not be able to use the MP608 with that expired-subscription tablet.

Buying a new compatible tablet? New devices include an initial software-update period, so you do not need to purchase an extra renewal for the initial setup while that included coverage is active. Register the device and install the available updates. The included update period depends on the model and offer.

Prefer not to renew your tablet? Use the MP608 with your own compatible Windows PC instead. This setup does not require an Autel tablet update subscription.

2. Prepare your chosen device

Using a compatible Autel tablet

  1. Confirm that your exact model appears in the compatibility list above.
  2. Check the tablet's update status. Renew an expired subscription before proceeding.
  3. Connect to a stable internet connection and install the required tablet and MaxiScope updates.
  4. Have the MP608 and supplied USB 2.0 Cable V2 ready for connection.

For the tablet update process, see How to Update Your Scanner Software. If you are unsure which renewal applies, contact our team with your exact model and serial number before buying.

Using your Windows PC

A Windows PC is a practical option if you already have a suitable computer or prefer not to renew a tablet subscription.

  1. Check your computer against the current MP608 PC requirements in Autel's MP608 documentation.
  2. Visit Autel Software Downloads and select MaxiScope for MP608. The MP608 download supports Windows 10 and Windows 11.
  3. Download and extract the installation package, run the installer, and follow its prompts.
  4. Use the MP608 software package, rather than the separate MP408 download.

3. Connect the MP608

Use the supplied USB cable to connect the MP608 to your chosen host. Fit the appropriate lead or probe to the scope input, then open MaxiScope and select the test you intend to perform.

Confirm that the software recognizes the connected instrument. Demo mode can help you explore the controls, but its example waveforms are not live measurements from the vehicle.

Before making vehicle-side connections: read the MP608 manual and the vehicle manufacturer's test procedure. Use the correct rated probes and accessories, observe the input limits, and follow the grounding instructions. Do not apply a voltage to the scope's ground input. Ignition and high-voltage testing require the appropriate equipment and training.

4. Start with one channel and one clear question

For your first session, choose a straightforward test covered by the software guidance and vehicle service information. For example, you might check whether a sensor signal stays consistent when a symptom occurs.

Enable the connected channel and match the probe setting to the accessory you are actually using. Then check:

  • Voltage scale: the signal should fit vertically without being clipped.
  • Time base: choose a time window that shows the event you want to inspect.
  • Probe scaling: the software setting must match the probe or attenuator so the displayed values are meaningful.
  • Trigger: use a suitable source and threshold to make a repeating signal easier to compare.

Automatic scaling can help you get started, but review the result before interpreting it. Change one setting at a time. Add more channels when you need to compare signals, rather than starting with a crowded display.

5. Capture, save, and compare

Once the waveform is readable, reproduce the relevant operating condition using the vehicle manufacturer's procedure. Save the capture and record the vehicle, measurement point, probe setup, engine or key state, and whether the symptom was present.

Use a clear file name, such as Vehicle_Sensor_SymptomPresent_01. If you repeat the test after a repair, keep the setup and operating conditions comparable. A reference waveform is useful context, but a visual difference alone does not prove a component has failed.

Tablet and PC interfaces may differ. Follow the instructions for your installed software version when selecting tests and saving files.

Quick troubleshooting

  • MP608 is not detected: check the exact host model, required software updates, correct MP608 application, and USB connection.
  • Required software is unavailable on an older tablet: check whether its update subscription has expired and arrange the appropriate renewal.
  • No changing waveform: confirm that acquisition is running, the correct channel is enabled, and the circuit should be producing a signal under the current conditions.
  • Unexpected readings: recheck the probe scaling, selected range, measurement point, and connections.

Build the MP608 setup that fits your workshop

Choose a supported tablet with the required updates, a new compatible tablet with included update coverage, or your own Windows PC. Confirm your host and software requirements before ordering, then prepare the right accessories for the tests you plan to perform.
